The RLF6000 is the largest panel in the Dermfix range. It measures 180 × 60cm and carries 1,200 dual-chip 5W LEDs behind a metal housing.

Width is what separates it from the rest of the range. The half-body panels are 30cm across; the RLF6000 is 60cm, so it covers the full width of the body as well as its height. Someone standing in front of it is inside the beam rather than centred on a narrow column of light.

At 40.6kg and 1885W it is a fixed installation rather than something carried between rooms. That suits clinics, studios and multi-user settings, and home installations where a permanent position is available for it.

Measured output

Spectrometer reading: 92 mW/cm² at 15cm, taken with a Hopoocolor OHSP350IR.

Every LED panel is brightest on axis at its centre, and irradiance tails off towards the edges and corners. Across a face this size that variation is worth accounting for, so we suggest 80 mW/cm² as the working average when calculating dose over the whole panel. The 92 figure is what the instrument recorded at the measurement point. We do not take a centre reading and present it as though it applied across the entire surface. Our note on irradiance testing sets out the method, and why a solar meter is the wrong instrument for the job.

One point is worth stating plainly. The RLF6000 is not meaningfully brighter than the smaller panels: 92 mW/cm² against 89 on the RLF1500 and 82 on the RLF750 sits inside the spread you would expect when measuring across panels of different sizes. What the extra LEDs buy is treated area per session, and therefore fewer repositionings, not a stronger dose.

Wavelengths

Seven wavelengths are fitted, each on its own channel and each dimmable from 0 to 100%:

480nm Visible blue. The shortest wavelength here, absorbed at the skin surface.
630nm Visible red. Taken up in the epidermis and upper dermis.
660nm Visible red. Reaches marginally deeper than 630nm.
810nm Near-infrared, invisible to the eye. Passes below the dermis.
830nm Near-infrared, invisible to the eye.
850nm Near-infrared, invisible. The most heavily researched of the near-infrared bands.
1060nm Near-infrared, invisible. The longest wavelength fitted to the panel.

Channels run alone or in any combination. Red and near-infrared together is the usual working setting. The blue channel is independent of the others and forms no part of a standard session.

Controls

The panel is operated from its own touchscreen or from the handheld remote, and both reach the same functions. Each wavelength dims independently across the full range. Near-infrared pulsing is set anywhere between 0 and 9999Hz. The timer covers 1 to 30 minutes and cuts the output when it expires.

Eleven preset modes are stored on the unit, alongside three programmes you can configure and save. Where a panel is shared, presets remove the need to reset every channel between users.

Output is flicker-free.

Mounting

Two floor stands are listed for the RLF6000. The vertical floor stand holds the panel upright in a fixed position. The motorised floor stand raises and lowers it under power, runs smoothly and silently, and is built in metal to carry the weight.

At 40.6kg the panel is a two-person lift. Decide where it is going before assembly rather than after.

Choosing between panels

Irradiance is comparable from the smallest panel in the range to the largest, so what actually differs between them is coverage. A bigger panel puts more of the body inside the beam at once; the dose reaching any given patch of skin is much the same.

RLF750 47 × 30cm, 150 LEDs. Targeted work: face, neck, one joint.
RLF1500 91 × 30cm, 300 LEDs. Half body: torso, back, or one full leg.
RLF3000 150 × 42cm, 600 LEDs. Whole body from a standing position.
RLF6000 180 × 60cm, 1,200 LEDs. Whole body without repositioning; clinic and shared use.

Supply and delivery

The RLF6000 is held in UK stock and dispatched from the UK with a three-pin plug already fitted to the lead. Nothing further falls due on arrival: no import VAT, no customs charge, no courier handling fee. Delivery within the UK is free on orders above £400. Warranty claims and returns are dealt with here rather than routed abroad.

Questions

How long should a session run, and from what distance?

A 10 to 20 minute session with the panel 15–30cm away is a reasonable place to start. Dose is irradiance multiplied by time, so stepping back and running the timer for longer arrives at a comparable total. On a panel this wide, standing further off also brings more of the body into an even part of the beam.

Is eye protection required?

It is a bright light source and should not be viewed directly. Goggles are not supplied with any panel in the RLF range; for body treatment it is enough to shut the eyes or face away from the unit. Narrowband UVB lamps are a separate case — there, eye protection is mandatory rather than optional.

What electrical supply does it need?

A standard UK 13A socket. The panel draws 1885W and a 13A socket supplies up to about 3,000W, so a socket of its own handles it comfortably. It should not share that socket with other equipment, and it should not be run from a daisy-chained extension lead. On running cost, full output consumes roughly 1.9 kWh for each hour of use, so a 15-minute session is under half a kilowatt-hour. The unit ships with a BS 1363 three-pin plug fitted, so no adaptor or rewiring is needed on arrival.

How much floor space and ceiling height does it need?

Mounted vertically the panel alone stands 180cm tall, with the stand base adding to that, so a room of normal ceiling height is fine but a low or sloped ceiling may not be. Allow around 60cm of wall or stand width plus clearance either side, and enough clear floor in front for the user to stand at 15–30cm, or further back for whole-body coverage in one position.

Is it more panel than one person at home needs?

Often, yes. For a single user the RLF3000 already covers a standing adult, draws half the power and is far easier to position. The RLF6000 makes sense where sessions run back to back, where several people share one room, or where the extra width means a whole-body session finishes in one position instead of two. If none of that applies, a smaller panel is the more sensible purchase.

What does the warranty cover?

The panel carries a three-year warranty, administered in the UK. LED life is rated to 50,000 hours; even at four hours of use a day that runs to decades, so the LEDs are not the limiting factor over the warranty term.

Is this a medical device?

No. Panels emitting red and near-infrared light sit outside the medical device classification that our narrowband UVB lamps fall under. Where a diagnosed skin condition is involved, red light therapy vs narrowband UVB sets out where each type of device fits.

I bought this panel as an upgrade from a smaller 80cm wide unit I have been using for a few years. Wow! This thing is impressive. The size is great as I can treat my whole body in one session either front or back. Quite an expensive unit, but looking at the construction I am optimistic it will last a good few years :-) Would recommend.

Very good unit

I'm in my mid-40s and I prefer to use the Dermfix 6000 in the mornings when I work out in my home gym – it gives me noticeably more energy, and my muscles feel significantly looser and more refreshed afterwards. My personal trainer has also recommended it to other clients.

Happy Days

I used to go to health clinics to sit in front of a red light panel. Now I can do it at home to rest and recover, and also as part of my morning and evening routine. It's good for my body and also helps me combat my winter depression.

Good expensive investment

Cant give a feedback yet - I have seen other units far more expensive on the market - and Dermfix looks like the best bet.
